"If I Have Made You Up"
If I have made you up are you less real than the cloudless sky the weatherman promised before the heavens fell open and what is more beautiful or lasting the torn photo your father carried in his billfold for years until the worn creases on your little girl's face had etched traces of the future in your eyes or the pictures we saved of all the times we never dared record at all yet live on and on like pressed flowers or a nearly forgotten song with no nourishment save the memory of love the blackbird sheen of its final goodbye
